On Friday, November 6 I was approached with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to participate in a medical mission trip with Operation Smile to Guwahati, India. I am so honored and thrilled to have this life-changing opportunity to assist a team of 50 volunteers change lives. My mind has been racing ever since!
Today I booked my flight and applied for my visa. I was surprised at how easy the process was through American Express Travel and Travisa Outsourcing. I also did a bit of research to familiarize myself with the upcoming trip. Here's a bit of what I learned:
- The flight time from Kalamzoo, MI to Delhi, India is 17 hours in air and another 3 to Guwahati.
- The time difference between Delhi and Detroit is 10 hours and 30 minutes.
- Guwahati is located in the northeastern portion of India in the state of Assam.
- Bangladesh is on the eastern border, Bhutan to the north and Burma to the south and west.
- The official language is Assamese.
- 20% of the world's tea is grown in the state of Assam.
